What is a Column?

A column refers to a vertical arrangement of data within a table. Each column has a specific name and data type, and it contains values corresponding to that data type for each row in the table, for example:

What is a Field?

A "field" refers to a single data element or attribute that represents a characteristic of a record. A record is a collection of fields, and each field typically contains a specific piece of information about the entity the record represents.

For example, consider a database that stores information about employees. Each employee's record might consist of fields such as:

  1. Employee ID
  2. Name
  3. E-mail
  4. Phone Number
  5. Department
  6. Adress
  7. Date

Fields are used to organize and categorize data within a database, making it easier to retrieve and manipulate information.

In our Help Center you will read and hear a lot about "Fields" and they will generally be associated with Plugforms fields, as shown below:

What is a Table?

A "table" is a structured collection of data organized into rows and columns. It is a fundamental concept in relational database management systems. A table is designed to represent and organize specific data, such as customers, products, employees, or any other category of information.

A table will have rows, columns, cells, and a primary key (a unique identifier for each record in a table).
